This quiet hamlet is entirely residential except for one small, picturesque shopping center. Tradition goes on each year with a Halloween party for all the town children, a town Christmas party and the opening of the fishing season. The Saddle River Valley Club offers adults social and service activities.

There is a modern elementary school, and high school students attend nearby Ramsey High School. A private day school, available to children from surrounding towns as well, and an excellent nursery school supplement the educational facilities.
